Build a healthy failure culture

If being wrong gets punished, people will protect the wrong plan.

Help people expose incorrect assumptions early and act on what they learn.

Does this sound familiar?

Leaders ask for experimentation. But when a customer rejects an idea or an approach fails, somebody gets blamed. The next review shows only the safe parts, and the uncomfortable finding arrives much later.

The organisation rewards appearing right over finding out what is wrong. Asking people to speak openly changes little while the punishment remains.

What we will work on

  • Recognise how responses to bad news teach people to hide it.
  • Separate useful disconfirmation from careless work.
  • Respond to a failed assumption so people can investigate and adapt.
  • Address consequences outside the meeting, including commitments and performance expectations.

For team leaders, Scrum Masters and managers who want experimentation to affect decisions in practice.
